You will serve as a Firefighter in the Fire and Emergency Services, Navy Installations Command (N30) of NAVAL BASE VENTURA COUNTY.

Duties

You will administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillation (AED) for a patient. You will operate firefighting equipment (e.g., pumps, foam generators, boom, ground sweep nozzles) to control or eliminate fires. You will establish on-scene control procedures (e.g., zone control, decontamination) in a hazardous material incident. You will position firefighting vehicles in consideration of external factors (e.g., wind direction, sources of water, hazards from falling structures, location of armament on aircraft).

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
• This position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain a current NREMT certification.
• This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.

Qualifications

GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; 2) rescue operations; 3) detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards. GS-03: Your resume must demonstrate at least six months of general work experience of military service that demonstrates your ability to follow directions and to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures and that otherwise demonstrates your ability to perform or learn to perform the duties of the position. In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

GS-4: Completed a 2-year course of study in an accredited college or university in Fire Training, Fire Science, or another related field of study.
OR
A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. Your percentage of the required education plus your percentage of the required experience must equal one hundred percent.

GS-3: Completed firefighter training that was obtained as part of a high school curriculum.
OR
completed one year of related education or firefighter training.
OR
A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. Your percentage of the required education plus your percentage of the required experience must equal one hundred percent.
