You will serve as a FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT OPS) in the FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES DEPARTMENT of NAVAL BASE VENTURA COUNTY.

Duties

You will administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillation (AED) for a patient. You will analyze the structural condition of a building to determine firefighting equipment and apparatus required to fight fire. You will operate firefighting equipment (e.g., hoses, ladders, hydrants) to fight structural fires. You will collect initial hazardous materials response information from hazardous materials safety data sheets, United Nations/North American (UN/NA) identification numbers, or placards.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • May be required to participate in Hazardous Materials Teams (HAZMAT).
  • May be required to perform duties associated with the operation of aircraft arresting barrier equipment.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents; 5) Driving and operating firefighting vehicles; and 6) Performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS-07: Firefighter II, Airport Firefighter, Apparatus Driver/Operator for Pumper, Driver/Operator for ARFF, Aerial Vehicles, HAZMAT Operations Level, and State or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician - Basic Life Support (NREMT-B). These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard to meet this requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.
