You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER in the COMMANDER, NAVY REGION SOUTHWEST of NAVAL BASE VENTURA COUNTY. Temporary actions taken under this announcement may be made permanent without further competition.

Duties

You will identify performance, progress, disciplinary, and training needs of crew members. You will train on fire protection and prevention education to elicit support and involvement in fire prevention, detection, and suppression. You will Inspect fire extinguishers to verify they are fully operational and meet all regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor III, Fire Inspector II, HAZMAT Incident Commander, Airport Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) National Registry.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Outside applicants (i.e., those without current or prior Federal competitive or exceptive service): Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing technical expertise and supervision in fire protection efforts; 2) Assigning work requirements and directing firefighting operations; 3) Coordinating plans and policies; and 4) Providing direction during emergency incidents. Applicants who are current or prior Federal competitive service employees must meet specialized experience requirements equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Providing technical expertise and supervision in fire protection efforts; 2) Assigning work requirements and directing firefighting operations; 3) Coordinating plans and policies; and 4) Providing direction during emergency incidents. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS 11: Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor III, Fire Inspector II, HAZMAT Incident Commander, Airport Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) National Registry. The fire certifications must have been awarded by the DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard to meet the requirement.
