About the Position: This position serves as a news reporter/staff writer/photographer, working in a team-oriented environment to produce products showcasing the members of the entire command and down trace units with duty in Kuwait. Gathers information and prepares stories that informs deployed and CONUS communities about local and national events that have an impact on the command. It is located at 1st Theater Sustainment Command, Fort Knox, KY.

Duties

Investigate story leads and news tips, research information, observes on the scene and interviews key people involved in the development of the story. Edit materials submitted by down trace units that may be used for internal and/or external publications. Explore possible external market opportunities for stories and articles that have been developed for internal purposes. Explore the use of a broad range of creative, informative print and electronic products in support of organizational communication objectives particularly for release on the World Wide Web.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Secret security clearance required.
  • Temporary duty travel (TDY) up to 25% of the time required.
  • This position is deployable to overseas locations.
  • Pre-deployment physical required.
  • No-fee special issue passport and visa required.
  • One-year probationary period may be required if not already completed in accordance with 5 CFR criteria.
  • This position is designated as Key. Incumbent cannot be subject to active-duty recall and position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization of the organization.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-07). OR Have a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or completion of all requirements for a LL.B or J.D. degree from an accredited college or university (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts). Education must apply to the duties being performed; OR Have a combination of education and experience. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communications and MediaResearchTechnical CompetenceWriting Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
