Duties

Serves as the Supervisor Range Operations Specialist, responsible for ensuring Fort Drum’s range modernization plan supports Army Training Strategy (ATS) and doctrine. Plans and prepares the Fort Drum Range Modernization Program. Ensures live fire range design and construction supports Army training doctrine and the development of Soldier skills in individual weapons and crew-served weapon systems Plans and advises on new or revised policies, objectives, technologic and equipment advances pertaining to weapons, ammunition and training facilities. Develops multiple-use ranges that meet standards outlined in AR 350-19 and TC 25-8 and that reduce construction and operating costs by permitting training with a variety of weapons on the same range Coordinates with Environmental for all range projects and facility maintenance and sustainment projects. Presents training facility enhancements and projects at the Training Facility Steering Committee.

Requirements

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience such as: Participating in overseeing maintenance of ranges, facilities and range equipment for an organization; ensuring ranges are designed and constructed to meet test and evaluation/training safety standards ; providing technical guidance on range operations to senior leaders concerning sustainment and support operations and identifying range safety danger zone diagrams and/or and ballistic characteristics establish hazardous areas and ranges. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: DesignFacilitiesFirearmsOral Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
