About the Position: Serves as the MHS Genesis Scheduling Medical Support Assistant (MSA) in a medical treatment facility as principal point of contact for Surgery Scheduling System, surgical database; perform office automation work, including word processing, spreadsheet application, database management, and a variety of clerical functions in support of the Surgical Services Line Clinics.
Duties
Utilize a variety of office automation work including word processing, spreadsheet application, MHS GENESIS database management, and word processing software (MS Access, MS Word, MS Excel).
Prepare statistical and workload analysis reports for the Program Managing Office and the organization's leaders.
Monitor and adjust schedules to ensure the availability of instrumentation, equipment, resolves schedule conflicts and reports as necessary.
Work closely with all surgeons and surgical clinic staff to ensure proper use of the system and aid clinic personnel in understanding the data communication process.
Maintain the walk-in/add-on schedule to ensure patients are seen in the appropriate order.
Address all patient concerns and attempt to resolve unexpected administrative issues that may create dissatisfied patients/family members.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccinations
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: template creation and management; scheduling using automated systems such as Composite Health Care System (CHCS), Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), Template Analysis Tool (TAT), Patient Appointment and Scheduling (PAS) and/or MHS Genesis; communicating with Medical Professionals and staff on a regular basis. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
