This position is part of the Department of Defense. The incumbent will be responsible for supervising a wide range of duties related to and associated with Transportation Operations.
Duties
As a Supervisory Transportation Operations Specialist you will be responsible for the following duties:
Overseeing the functions within Packaging and Crating, Air, Land and Sea Cargo Shipments, and Hazardous Materials movements and Vehicle Fleet Management.
Supervising a workforce of civilian and military personnel.
Planning and assigning work to be accomplished by employees, establishing and adjusting priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work.
Evaluating work performance of employees.
Giving advice and/or instruction to employees on both technical and administrative matters.
Investigating and analyzing logistics processes to improve production and/or increase the quality of the work directed.
Managing the business and posture planning for Transportation Operation, considering facilities, equipment, training requirements, materiel requirements, and software development.
Developing short term and long range plans for implementation.
Coordinating impact of plans with other affected organizations.
Developing Transportation Operations indicators, objectives, goals and metrics.
Providing centralized integrated evaluation and analysis of transportation operations including: material processing efficiencies, cargo movements by all transportation modes and customer support analysis.
Inspecting and analyzing logistics functions of the Management Services Center, Materiel Management Team (MSC/MMT), including maintenance, vehicle fleet requirements, packaging and handling, cargo shipping and facilities.
Ensuring compliance with laws, rules, regulations, executive orders, or other mandatory guidelines related to the execution of logistics functions being performed by Transportation Operations staff.
Operates Tractor-Trailer vehicles, to include semi and full trailers, and straight inline trucks which typically have a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 26,000 pounds or more.
Operates vehicles intrastate and interstate in a variety of driving situations such as congested highways, metropolitan areas, narrow country or mountain roads and steep winding grades.

- Suitable for Federal employment determined by required background investigation
- Must obtain/maintain Special Sensitive (TS/SCI) security clearance with Polygraph and participate in periodic polygraph examinations.

- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Must be able to lift cargo weighing up to 35 pounds.
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Required to pass a Department of Transportation Commercial Drivers physical examination.
- VISION REQUIREMENTS: Vision must be correctable to 20/40.
- LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Must obtain and maintain a Class A commercial drivers license with hazardous materials endorsement for the operation of vehicles over 26,000 GVW.
- CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT: Must obtain and maintain HAZMAT Certification.
- Subject to uncommon tour of duty to meet priority on emergency situations. May be called in on weekends and/or holidays and is subject to evening call back to handle all priorities and any emergency.
- Work requires active walking, bending and stooping. Must be able to sit for extended periods and team drive 24 hours a day over long distances to accomplish mission requirements.

Specialized experience required for this position at the GG12 level is:
1. Planning, coordinating, and executing, with higher level authorities, to meet air, land or sea transportation interstate/intrastate guidelines;
2. Supporting supply chain processes and logistics requirement from inception to distribution; and
3. Leading or managing personnel in meeting the technical requirements and business process of a program or project.
