This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is with the Fort Carson Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security Training Division.
Duties
Maintain accountability of the assigned portion of the Installation Property Book Office hand receipt of assigned ranges and equipment.
Supervise the operation of the ranges and training facilities on Fort Carson.
Provide and maintain training facilities for Active Army units, National Guard, and Reserve units that train on Fort Carson.
Inform employees regarding policies, procedures, and goals of management as they relate to the remote-controlled automated ranges.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- Position may require work on weekends, holidays and on-call status.
- This is a Mission Essential position. Incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) supervising and maintaining operations of range and training facilities; 2) identifying and prioritizing range equipment and facility maintenance requirements; AND 3) supervision of employees to include scheduling work, coordinating leave, conducting training and evaluations, handling grievances, and disciplinary actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
