This position serves as a Government Information Specialist responsible for providing administrative and advisory services for FOIA/PA program within the Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division, Division of Administration, Branch of Document Management. The Branch of Document Management provides information services in response to the needs of the Administrator and other agency officials.
This position is outside the Bargaining Unit.
Duties
Typical duties for the Government Information Specialist includes but are not limited to the following:
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Candidate required to obtain the necessary security/investigation level.
- Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.
Qualifications
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such position.
Applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, (i. e., GS-09 for a GS-11) in the Federal Service.
Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. For this position specialized experience is defined as experience performing administrative and advisory services related to Section 508 Compliance, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the Privacy Act (PA) programs.
Examples of specialized experience for this position are:
Experience processing FOIA requests for public release and working with provisions of FOIA, and other pertinent laws, Executive Orders, court decisions, and precedents pertaining to information access and release.
Experience in applying Section 508 accessibility standards and using standard assistive devices, accessibility software, and automated identification testing tools.
Experience providing reading services from documents that routinely contain charts, tables, images, complex legal terms and language.
OR, you can qualify based on education in lieu of Specialized Experience by
Possessing a PH.D. or equivalent Doctoral Degree
Possessing 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or,
Possessing an LL.M., if related.
