About the Position: Serve as Security Specialist responsible for providing oversight of the organizations security programs for the Office Deputy Chief of Staff, G-9 (ODCS, G-9) and the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment (ASA IE&E).
Relocation incentive MAY be authorized subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations.
Duties
Conduct comprehensive analysis of organizational security plans and survey reports for compliance with established policies and procedures.
Monitor the activity's security program administration through staff visits and security inspections to ensure uniform compliance with Department of Defense, Department of Army, and organizational security directives and regulations.
Evaluate personnel security files to determine whether to suspend or restrict security clearances in the interest of national security.
Implement procedures to ensure all assigned personnel who handle classified material are appropriately instructed, cleared, and have a need for access.
Conduct inspections and security engineering anti-terrorism assessments of construction proposals.
Ensure proper installation and utilization of intrusion detection systems, and card access control systems.
Develop a physical security and/or crime prevention program as appropriate.
Advise on procedures governing classification, declassification, downgrading, and safeguarding of national security information.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Maintain Top Secret clearance.
- Pre-employment and random drug testing required.
- Position requires temporary duty travel up to 10% of the time.
- After hire the incumbent will be required to obtain the DOD Security Professional Education Development (SPED) Security fundamental Professional Certification and maintain the certification IAW published guidance.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing requests for security clearances; conduct surveys to identify how vulnerable facilities or sites are and threats against them; and recommending appropriate corrective action where security requirements are not being observed. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
