About the Position: This position serves as a Training Instructor (Special Forces/Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape) for the U.S. Army JFK Special Warfare Center and School.

Duties

Ensure currency, adequacy and accuracy of course documents such as course charts, plans of instruction, and training and proficiency standards. Recommend or establish appropriate scheduling of assigned course or performs coordinative duties as required. Plan and present material in accordance with lesson plans and within the prescribed course framework. Exercise control over resource management contracts, priorities, and schedules. Conduct program reviews to determine the adjustments needed in equipment, operations, methods, personnel authorizations, or assignments.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • The employee may be required to work overtime.
  • Position requires working on rotating shifts. The employee is required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • This position requires employee to work under adverse environmental conditions. Work is performed in and outdoors and the employee may be exposed to inclement weather.
  • This position requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) travel is occasionally required 10% of the time.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical.
  • Employee must be physically fit IAW regulatory requirements.
  • Employee must graduate a DoD SERE Course, unless they are a former Prisoner of War and complete the Special Operations Instructor Course.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes providing training instruction that directly delivers instruction or training services to learners and instructors; training entry level soldiers in basic and advanced techniques of Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE); and evaluating the effectiveness of course content recognizing/addressing student learning problems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree \ in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
