The Public Affairs Specialist position reports to the Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chairman and will work with the Chief of Staff and the Senior Advisor for Legislative and Public Affairs to conduct day-to-day operational public affairs tasks.
Duties
Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate has experience as a writer-editor and has executed communication products for a diverse audience. This person has strong attention to detail, an eye for consistent messaging, and proficiency with grammar and editorial conventions. The ideal candidate works successfully in a collegial team-oriented setting with an appreciation for collaborating with a variety of stakeholders.
As a Public Affairs Specialist you will:
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:
A. You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Assisting in writing and developing articles, news releases, and social media posts;
Drafting reports, talking points, briefing packets and power point presentations;
Assisting others in the use of social media, radio, television, newspapers, fact sheets, and/or the internet within an organization; and
Researching organizational programs, activities and/or functions for the preparation of communications to general audiences of directives and the design, documentation and implementation of various reporting systems.
OR
B. Have a Master's or equivalent degree in any field of study that demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of a Public Affairs Specialist.
OR
C. Have two (2) full years of graduate education or a master's degree, LL. B, J.D., or equivalent degree that demonstrates the competencies needed to do the work of the position.
OR
D. Have a combination of education and experience. Please note that only graduate education in excess of the first full year is creditable towards meeting the specialized experience/education requirement at the GS-09 grade level.
The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
