About the Position: This position is located in the U.S. Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) Advertising and Public Affairs (A&PA) office of the U.S. Army 1st Medical Recruiting Battalion. Serves as a Public Affairs Specialist responsible in the execution of advertising, promotional, outreach, and public affairs activities within the battalion area of responsibility.

Duties

Produce multimedia content to support the command information program. Maintain battalion websites and/or social media sites, ensuring compliance with policies, standards, and/or guidelines. Organize a variety of promotional programs and/or fairs, conventions, or similar events. Prepare and submit After-Action Reports (AAR) to assess the success of promotional programs. Photograph subjects to support news releases, articles, and social media. Write news releases and feature articles for internal and external publications, social media, and other Army publications and/or sites. Establish and maintain professional working relationships with media vendors, news media representatives, and officials of various public and private organizations. Assist with media relations by responding to media queries, developing talking points, and notifying Headquarters (HQ) U.S. Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) Public Affairs Office (PAO) of media queries.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience, which includes: 1) Performing public affairs activities for an organization; 2) Preparing written materials to publicize an organization's mission and/or events, such as, news releases, feature articles, talking points, and/or statements; 3) Coordinating media access and/or presence for highlighted programs; and 4) Responding to requests for information concerning an organization's programs and/or services. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). -OR- Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Communications, Public Administration, or another related field. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communications and MediaMultimedia TechnologiesPublic Affairs Policies and ProceduresWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
