About the Position: Serves as a Lead Electronics Technician (Biomedical) advisor and consultant to MEDCoE staff in the purchase of new equipment, and modification of systems, located at U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Duties

Independently plans and carries out assignments in conformance with accepted policies and practices. Evaluates new pieces of medical equipment from various manufacturers for possible purchase, advising staff and clinicians on the maintainability, suitability, compatibilities, and adaptability of the new equipment. Understanding of integrated systems designs to determine whether items are compatible with existing utilities and existing equipment/components. Perform complex testing to obtain and analyze data that is difficult and requires some judgment to interpret, evaluate, and produce proper results. Handle and/or insure proper disposal of hazardous material(s). Prepares instructional material and conducts training in the procedures, techniques and methods of operating, testing, and calibrating medical systems for MEDCoE personnel.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includesin-depth understanding of related engineering theory, equipment design, and engineering techniques. Experience performing installation, maintenance, operation, and testing duties; employing unique and specially designed precision instruments; maintaining one-of-a-kind equipment, custom equipment, developmental equipment, or equipment which is continually being modified; and completes moderately difficult and complex survey work. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). OR Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or electronics technology, OR (b) 3 years of study in an accredited (by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET)) curriculum in electronics, OR (c) a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that included major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses, such as, engineering, physical science, technology, or mathematics. At least 12 of the 24 semester hours must have been in electronics courses. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
