About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Student Loan repayment may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Duties

Advises prospective investigators on ethical, technical and procedural requirements for protocol development. Oversees the arrangements and coordination for Committee meetings and ensures all committee members receive all the required documents for review. Obtains and processes and documents adverse events, amendments, protocol deviations, and timely literature searches. Serves as the Recorder and a non-voting member of the Institutional Review Board. Composes regulations and guidelines for investigators, based on directives and policies of higher agencies. Oversees the preparation and editing of the BAMC Clinical Investigation Annual Progress Report. Supervises internal and external training for subordinates.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

• One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Clinical Research Protocol Coordinator: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing clinical research protocols, utilizing electronic management systems for submission of protocols or reports, conducting analysis of ongoing protocols by using findings as educational points for investigators and advising prospective investigators on procedural requirement for protocol development. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Clinical Research. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
