You will serve as a Quality Assurance Specialist (Shipbuilding) in the Non-Destructive Test (NDT) Division (Code 135), Quality Assurance Department (Code 130), Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) of MID ATLANTIC REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CTR.
Duties
You will manage all aspects of the NDT raining, qualification and certification program at MARMC for the VT, MT, PT and UT inspections methods in accordance with all applicable NAVSEA requirements,
You will develop, qualify and approve inspection procedures and techniques unique to MARMC equipment and facilities.
You will be responsible for maintaining training, qualification, certification and oversight records for all NDT personnel in an organized and auditable format.
You will independently develop recovery plans for deficiencies or non-compliance that affect product quality and reliability.
You will act quickly and decisively to initiate recovery plans while communicating with supervision, management technical authority.
You will participate in audits of facilities and inspection personnel as technical expert in NDT.
You will evaluate the performance of inspectors and approval of workmanship samples used for evaluation of welding fabrication of hull structure, ships systems and ancillary systems.
You will maintain a Radiological Deficiency Reporting (RDR) Program to identify, report and correct improvement areas, potential and actual incidents.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to climb ladders and scaffolding.
- You will be required to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 40 pounds in weight.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience with all phases of inspection and techniques of NDT and allied manufacturing processes;
Experience with shipboard hull, piping and mechanical systems and subsystems;
Experience operating conditions and parameters, failure mechanisms, repair and maintenance processes, procedures and technical requirements;
Experience interpreting and conveying complex concepts and requirements with authorities, public and private ship maintenance and repair activities, industry experts and all levels of management;
Experience working with design drawings, fabrication documents, technical manuals, NAVSEA drawings, specifications overhaul, and contracts.
