About the Position. The incumbent carries out teaching and instruction activities in accordance with established objectives, policies and accepted teaching practices.

Duties

Provides multiple methods of instructions, evaluation, and counseling to students. Develops and prepares lesson plans, instructional materials, and program evaluations. Administers and evaluate oral, written, and hands-on exams. Oversees the serviceability and maintenance of classrooms and training resources. Serves as the field training primary instructor responsible for the integration and synchronization of multiple training events.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The position requires a pre-appointment physical.
  • This position is subject to random urinalysis per OPM regulations and AR 600-85 due to handling of weapons, ammunition, conducting marksmanship training, and transporting students in tactical vehicles.
  • Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license, and any installation, DOD and/or Federal license or certification required for vehicle operated.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • Newly hired instructors (not Level 1 combative certified) must be willing and able to obtain Level 1 certification within six months.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes: supervising or administering a training program; developing or reviewing training / course materials, aids, devices, etc.; evaluating the progress of students and assisting them to improve their performance; providing multiple methods of instructions, evaluation, and counseling; performing primary marksmanship training, weapons qualification, range operations, and land navigation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as, Teaching, Education Studies, and Instructional Design. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ammunition and ExplosivesCurriculum DevelopmentEducation / Training Program AdministrationInstructional Delivery and Learner Development Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
