This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Medicare (CM), Hospital and Ambulatory Policy Group (HAPG), Division of Practitioner Services (DPS).
As a Supervisory Health Insurance Specialist, GS-0107-15, you will serve as Deputy Director, a technical expert on the scope of Medicare benefits with respect to developing, evaluating and implementing payment policies for such services.
Duties
Finds ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work directed and develops performance standards.
Along with the Division director, directs the work of a staff of GS-7 through GS-14 employees and contractor staff if applicable.
Provides expert consultation to staff and leadership of other components on technical and policy issues in areas of common interest.
Provides guidance in the evaluation of legislation and regulations to assess impact on the Physician Fee Schedule program and participates in development of improvements in program operations and service to Hospital and Ambulatory Policy Group.
Manages annual public process for developing appropriate payment rates for new codes added to the Physician Fee Schedule.

In order to qualify for this GS-15 position, you must meet the following: you must clearly demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: (1) Developing, evaluating, or maintaining policies, regulations, standards, or instructions that define the administration of health benefit or insurance programs, such as those related to professional or hospital services; AND (2) Developing short or long-term goals, budgets or plans related to the administration of health benefit or insurance programs; AND (3) Planning, organizing, or assessing the work activities of teams (e.g. setting and adjusting short-term priorities, preparing/adjusting schedules for completion of work), including contractors.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Time-in-Grade: To be eligible, current Federal employees must have served at least 52 weeks (one year) at the next lower grade level from the position/grade level(s) to which they are applying.
