You will serve as a Physical Scientist in the Submarine Navigation Branch, Submarine Products Division, Hydrographic Department of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
Duties
You will be responsible for processing incoming field navigation and sonar data to a gridded format for bathymetry and hydrographic models.
You will be responsible for researching, reviewing, and acquiring, as needed for archival data, charts, and publications to determine geomorphological characteristics of areas under complication.
You will be responsible for performing automated data analysis of bathymetric, hydrographic, and related data sets from various sources and evaluated resultant data files for accuracy, completeness, and reliability.
You will be responsible for providing technical guidance to internal employees on assigned projects and maintaining liaisons with other components of NAVOCEANO and the technical community.
You will be responsible for maintaining technical and scientific knowledge pertaining to Branch functions and keeping up to date with scientific and/or technical developments through literature, seminars, and formal training.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying significant subject matter expertise in examining data quality utilizing established procedures and demonstrating the ability to design new analysis standards and quality control techniques.
Experience providing instruction for new personnel on proper scientific analysis techniques and providing continuing technical guidance to lower grade physical scientists.
Experience in testing and evaluating new techniques and software packages to improve product lines and associated quality control procedures.
Experience developing tests and maintaining algorithms, models, procedures, and software for the computation and analysis required by the automated processing and production methods of the Bathymetric Branch.

Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in the following: physical science, engineering, or mathematics.
- Degree must also include 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
- Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
