About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Duties

Updates local policies on credentials review and clinical privileging. Provides advice and regulatory guidance, either verbally or in writing, to practitioners and staff regarding both routine and complex privileging matters. Assists with researching, developing, and managing the credentialing program. Establishes and maintains office files for credentialing and privileging. Utilizes a computer for word processing and data base maintenance to provide office automation support. Researches Regulatory Guidance relating to credentialing and clinical privileging to keep abreast of trends.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Basic Requirements for Health System Specialist: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing automated systems to generate reports, establishing and maintaining credentialing files and educating staff concerning credential verification and privileging. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate educationn leading to such a degree with a major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
