About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Serve as the Casualty Assistance Center (CAC) Program Trainer. Develop, implement, train and in some cases certify Military Funeral Honors teams, Casualty Notification Officers, Casualty Assistance Officers, Cemetery Operations, Line of Duty investigations, and Mass Casualty Participation. Determine detailed subjects and references to be included in Programs of Instruction following the scope of instruction and guidance received on background material. Develop lesson plans and completes outlines of material to be covered in the instruction of each subject included in the programs of instruction. Participate in task analyses for determining training requirements in training and testing materials and specialized learning programs. Provide support to other Casualty employees such as Casualty Operations Manager, Military Benefits, and Memorial Affairs Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Driver's license required.
  • Obtain and maintain a government driver's license.
  • On a rotational basis, subject to recall after normal duty day in the event of an emergency call. Rotational assignment will encompass nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.

Verifying the accuracy of Casualty Operations Human Resources calculations such as creditable military service, survivor benefits, and travel reimbursement calculations; 2.) Submitting Casualty Operations Human Resources transactions such as casualty gratuity payments, life insurance payments, funeral and interment payments; 3.) Preparing presentations for Casualty Operations Human Resources briefs covering topics such as Military Escorts, Casualty Affairs Officers (CAOs), Casualty Notification Officers (CNOs), and Military Funeral Honors. 4) Assisting with training employees in areas such as casualty, mortuary affairs, and mass casualty. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Human Resources. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
