Duties

Provides server administration of enterprise level hardware and system software in support of DLA’s information systems (IS) environment that includes, but not limited to, systems used by... (cont.) system/application developers to conduct the design, development and testing of DLA’s business applications and related system software. Provides enterprise level server administration that includes the support for a variety of purposes including infrastructure applications, security, data/file server, and office administration. Plans, designs and carries out research and evaluation of next generation server operating systems. Develops solutions and alternatives for server systems and software design (i.e. augmentation of existing equipment, integrating interacting systems, etc.) that identify configurations, procedures... (cont.) and/or techniques that will correct identifiable weaknesses and/or improve local agency and DLA mission performance. Isolates, identifies, analyzes, evaluates and resolves complex hardware, software and/or communications problems. Provides technical guidance, analysis, advice, and trouble-shooting/problem resolution on a wide range of extremely complex operational problems that impact DLA enterprise operations. Provides Management of DLA staffing contracts. Acts as a TPOC/COTR, liaison for DLA staffing contracts.

Qualifications

To qualify for an IT Specialist (SYSADMIN/INFOSEC), your resume and supporting documentation must support: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-13 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Evaluating new releases/new versions to identify changes, enhancements and other differences between new releases/new versions of operating systems, enterprise monitoring software and infrastructure applications. Evaluating methods, techniques, or procedures designed to improve overall midtier/desktop efficiency and operation and recommend adoption/modification. Tests and installs new versions of operating system software (i.e. Microsoft Windows Server, Linux Red Hat), application software, and other software. Evaluates the comparison of alternatives in terms of cost, time, equipment and staff and recommends a course of action. Installs, tests and operates hardware and software used in prototype and evaluates results. Isolates, identifies, analyzes, evaluates and resolves complex hardware, software and/or communications problems. Performs feasibility studies, which involve application of emerging computer technology to resolve unique user requirements. Monitors innovations/strategic directions in logistics and infrastructure application technology. Manages, creates, and evaluates procurement and staffing contracts. Provides technical oversight of teams of contractors and subject matter experts For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed: 1. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
