The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an electronics technician for a technical support organization within a Squadron whose mission is to provide an organic capability in the design, development, fabrication and integration of specialized electronic systems for development and testing.

Duties

Assignments of this position relate to the in-house design, modification, fabrication and installation of components/systems used in support of developmental test and evaluation projects such as range instrumentation, airborne digital systems, weapon systems and general ground and airborne data collection systems. A senior technician, responsible for carrying out assignments in support of research and development activities. Provides technician support to engineers in the design and development of unique output/ input interfaces and associated electronic equipment necessary to test weapon system integrity, longevity, expandibility, safety, and in resolving system deficiencies and concerns. Participates in the resolution of very difficult maintenance problems which are generally beyond the scope of lower graded mechanics and technicians and which involve highly complex electronic systems being repaired, overhauled, modified, and tested.

  • Ability to apply electronics knowledge to engineering processes and functions such as design, development, testing and maintenance
  • Knowledge of safety and occupational health principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and current legislative issues
  • Knowledge of the capabilities, characteristics, and uses of electronic equipment and systems and ability to read engineering plans and specifications
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and elementary physics and engineering drafting principles, methods, and techniques with the knowledge of current automation technology and practices essential for the accomplishment of electronics technician work

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Electronics Technical Series- 0856. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes ability to design, development, fabrication and integration of specialized electronic systems for development and testing. Assignments of this position relate to the in-house design, modification, fabrication and installation of components/systems used in support of developmental test and evaluation projects such as range instrumentation, airborne digital systems, weapon systems and general ground and airborne data collection systems. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of the techniques and theories characteristic of electronics 2. Ability to apply electronics knowledge to engineering processes and functions such as design, development, testing and maintenance 3. Knowledge of safety and occupational health practices as they relate to electronics technician performance requirements 4. Knowledge of current automation technology and practices essential for the accomplishment of electronics technician work 5. Ability to read engineering plans and specifications 6. Knowledge of basic mathematics and elementary physics 7. Knowledge of engineering drafting principles, methods. and techniques 8. Knowledge of the capabilities, characteristics, and uses of electronic equipment and systems 9. Ability to give oral presentations 10. Ability to communicate in writing 11. Ability to maintain good working relations 12. Ability to plan, organize work, and meet deadlines 13. Ability to gather, analyze, organize, and present data and supporting analyses 14. Ability to access or locate information through the use of a personal computer or terminal 15. Ability to research, analyze, interpret and apply rules, regulations, and procedures PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
