PURPOSE OF POSITION AND ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION: The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as platform instructor, developing, revising and maintaining new and/or existing material for AFSC Safety Education and Training courses.
Duties
Serve as platform instructor for AFSC Safety Education and Training courses.
Develops safety education and training program requirements.
Primary member assigned to Class A mishap investigations IAW AFI 91-204, Safety ll1vestigatio11s and Reports.
Participates in special projects.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Associates degree in Safety; bachelor's degree in education, occupational safety and health, aviation safety, engineering, business administration, and/or management from an accredited civilian institution highly desired.
- Documented work experience in an AF Safety office (Functional Account Code I 06Ad. Must be able to obtain and maintain academic instruction certification.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain academic instruction certifications.
- Employee may be required to transport travel bags containing computers, audiovisual equipment, and course materials weighing up to 40 pounds when traveling by air or ground transportation when conducting remote training courses.
- Assignments may involve travel on civilian or military aircraft to military installations.
- Work at the AF Crash Lab may involve moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, e.g. exposure to weather and (Continued below)

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions Group Coverage, for the GS-0018 Safety and Occupational Health Management Series.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Expert knowledge of Air Force Safety Instructions, safety standards, procedures, methods, and techniques applicable to a broad range of air safety duties sufficient to manage a specialized safety program for a MAJCOM with diversified and worldwide locations, large numbers of personnel in a wide variety of occupations and sensitive, costly property and equipment and to serve as technical authority in making significant air safety decisions or recommendations, expert knowledge of the body of laws. regulations. policies. and procedures related to flight safety to sufficiently determine compliance with applicable regulatory provisions during Safety Program Evaluations, and expert knowledge of the requirements, methods. and techniques of accident and mishap investigation of normal to flight safety risk areas to include fact-finding, analysis, risk assessment. and resolution of safety problems. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Comprehensive knowledge of the body of laws, regulations, policies, standards, procedures, methods, and techniques applicable to a broad range of safety and occupational health requirements sufficient to plan, direct, coordinate, and incorporate aviation, ground, weapons, space safety requirements into instruction.
Expert knowledge in mishap investigation and reporting resulting in demonstrated skill in relaying information to students that results in enhanced ability to prevent mishaps through accurate identification of findings, causes, and recommendations that prevent mishap recurrence.
Application of the knowledge of (a) the principles, standards, and techniques of safety and occupational health management; and (b) pertinent elements of engineering, physical science, ergonomics, psychology, industrial hygiene, physiology, sociology, and other scientific and technological fields which contribute to the achievement of comprehensive safety education principles, practices, and techniques of instruction.
Possess effective presentation skills that enhance ability to present technical information in each assigned area of instruction; e.g., investigation techniques, engineering factors in investigation, and human behavior and culture.
Skill in utilizing the Instructional Design System.
Oral and written communications skill of sufficient quality to gain acceptance of new methodologies, advise/apprise senior leadership of relevant/important issues, articulate technical information and processes in meetings, produce clear and useful reports, and interface with other agencies.
Skill in operating word-processing software to enter, format, and print information in the production of lesson plans, course charts, etc.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
