This position is located in the Behavioral Health Department of the Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC) in Phoenix, AZ. This position serves as the Mental Health Therapist and serves as a licensed independent practitioner for Clinical Social Work that provides intensive therapeutic services, consultation, and support to patients. Primary focus will be in the areas of family interventions (prevention, treatment, follow-up, and referrals).
Duties
Independently provides expert counseling/therapy and follow-up services to patients (individual/family/group) to include supportive, family, group, cognitive, behavioral, interpersonal therapies.
Participates in behavioral health clinical on-call night schedule.
Assists in developing and assisting in gathering behavioral health data, and prepares factual information and reports to assist in developing or evaluating new or existing programs in the area of behavioral health.
Provides academic trainings and may cover such issues as the disease concepts, treatments and follow-up process, prevention orientation, methods of prevention and treatment, youth and family issues, orientation to crisis prevention techniques, principles of patient confidentiality and other issues pertinent to behavioral health within the Indian Community.
Qualifications

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Degree: social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications and Selective Placement Factors stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-12:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Professional knowledge of social work to provide a variety of treatment modalities and their application including individual, family, psychotherapy and case consultation; Knowledge and specialized experience in using the Diagnostic System of Mental Health Disorders (DSM); Competence with DSM for differential diagnosis and treatment planning; Knowledge of psychological principles and processes, and psychotropic medications; and Ability to perform extensive research and evaluation.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS:
This position requires a current, unrestricted U.S. State license as a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or a Certified Independent Social Worker (CISW). (Must attach a copy of your license with your application.)
AND The ability to use the Diagnostic System or Mental Health Disorder (DSM-IV-TR) in assessment, diagnosis, and other activities.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
