You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (NAVAL ARCHITECTURE) in the ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT of SOUTHEAST REG MAINTENANCE CTR SERMC.
Duties
You will provide naval architecture services in connection with overhaul and repair of major ship classes such as aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers, frigates and construction of small boats.
You will serve as an expert for satisfactory stability and reserve buoyancy for ships and service craft in the home port area, including preliminary design and interfacing with NAVSEA for establishment of criteria.
You will prepare design calculations for shipboard systems in the areas of structures, foundations, hull fittings, welding, mooring and towing, docking, facility certification, underwater husbandry and coatings for ship repair.
You will perform detailed engineering analysis as necessary to solve ship alterations and other problems in the naval architecture field where such problems require the services of an expert troubleshooter.
You will act as the central point of contact and maintains the dry dock certification program.
You will provide engineering and technical information to contractors, personnel of the SERMC office, and naval shore activities in the area.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
Qualifications
GS-12:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience with Coating systems used onboard Naval vessel to include coating inspector qualification (NBPI or NACE CIP Level 1).
Experience and working knowledge of Naval ship structures to include various materials and understanding of welding processes.
Experience and background in accomplishing inspection/assessments on intake/uptakes, hull and superstructure.
Experience with utilizing naval drawings, NAVSEA Standard Items, NSTMs and Tech Manuals.
Experience and familiarity/background in shipboard stability and stability calculations.
Experience in making oral and written technical reports.
