Duties

Major Duties of the Position: The primary purpose of this position is to provide the Deputy Director for the United States Air Force Academy Preparatory School (USAFA PS). Shares with the Commander in exercising management authority over the school operations and assists in maintaining the forward direction of the organization's mission. Oversees complex, numerous, and varied day-to-day support activities provided to 240 enlisted Airmen (cadet candidates) in academic learning, military training, physical fitness, and character development. Additionally, the deputy is responsible for the development of financial, personnel, budgeting, and facilities plans and upgrades. The incumbent is authorized to make technical and executive decisions for the Commander in all areas of functional responsibility; represents the commander at meetings, conferences, official functions, and community events; and, when acting as the senior group official in the absence of the commander, possesses the same authority and prerogatives as the commander, excluding UCMJ authority which is vested in military officers only.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: An earned master's degree in a closely related leadership, human resources discipline with appropriate staff experience at the numbered air force, major command, or air staff level to effectively accomplish financial, personnel, and related primary duties assigned. One year of experience in academic or staff administration and Air Force platform instruction or secondary or post-secondary educational experience is highly desired. May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft to accomplish temporary duty. The employee must obtain and maintain a favorable background check as a condition of employment. Employee may occasionally be recalled to duty or required to work extended hours. ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES: An earned master's degree in a closely related leadership, human resources discipline with appropriate staff experience at the numbered air force, major command, or air staff level to effectively accomplish financial, personnel, and related primary duties assigned. One year of experience in academic or staff administration and Air Force platform instruction or secondary or post-secondary educational experience is highly desired. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: To provide executive program management and, as the senior civilian at the Preparatory School, provide continuity of management direction and day-to-day operations. To provide in-depth instruction in Academics, Athletics, Character Development, and Military Training to prepare and evaluate selected personnel for entry into the United States Air Force Academy. Staff also inspires and motivates cadet candidates through role modeling, career counseling, guidance, and hands-on leadership training; and strives to instill character, dedication, excellence, and discipline required of all professional military and civilian staff members. FOREIGN EDUCATION:
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the educational requirements. However, you must show proof that the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying in the form of an "official" statement of U.S. equivalency from a Department of Education approved (non-federal) agency (i.e. AICE, NACES), who will complete a U.S. Standard of Education Conversion.
