You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST / OCEANOGRAPHER / GEOPHYSICIST in the BATHYMETRIC DATABASES BRANCH, DATA MANAGEMENT DIVISION, HYDROGRAPHIC DEPARTMENT of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
Duties
You will coordinate/conduct the examination and evaluation of hydrographic and bathymetric datasets.
You will review ongoing requirements and production plans to prioritize processing, gridding, and cataloging of hydrographic and bathymetric data.
You will develop and maintain process documentation, including revisions to standard operating procedures.
You will provide testing and evaluation of new data processing software, enhancements to existing software, and fixes to existing software to correct reported deficiencies.
You will identify problems and coordinate solutions with NAVOCEANO and other survey platforms.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position requires up to 50 percent field duty aboard oceanographic survey vessels.
Qualifications
For GS-12: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience with a wide range of oceanographic, hydrographic, and bathymetric concepts which include the following: basic theory of multi beam sonar, the propagation of sound in the oceanic environment, formation and distribution of hydrographic and bathymetric features, and geospatial data interpretation and exploitation.
Experience of ADP methods to perform complex tasks on hydrographic and bathymetric dataset using ADP techniques.

- General Physical Science Series, 1301
Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included
24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Degree: that included
at least 30 semester hours in mathematics (including calculus) and the physical sciences (geophysics, physics, engineering, geology, astronomy, meteorology, electronics, etc.).
OR
Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Degree: major study of
at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.

Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
