The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a senior IT specialist to analyze, manage, or perform work necessary to provide optimum use of virtual management systems, including the planning, analysis, acquisition, design, development, implementation, quality assurance, configuration, installation, integration, troubleshooting, testing and operational integrity.
Duties
Serve as a senior specialist and focal point for PACAF's virtual management systems.
As a senior IT specialist, interface and coordinate with external agencies on underlying network services such as enclave LAN/WAN system designs, monitoring, configurations, and installations of network
hardware/software, affecting virtual system environment.
Develops and recommends technical solutions prior to acquisition efforts.
Evaluate new, large systems engineering technology and its effect on complex virtual management systems.
Manage Quality Assurance (QA) requirements for contractor delivered operating systems and services.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret, Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Security Clearance. This position is designated Special Sensitive and requires eligibility for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI),
- other intelligence related Special Sensitive information, or involvement in Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP) to fully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. A non-disclosure agreement must be signed.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on a military or commercial aircraft.
- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends,
and/or holidays.
- Recall to duty and overtime or emergency overtime may be a requirement of this position.
- The employee may be required to meet Department of Defense (DoD) 8570.01-M Information Assurance (IA)
training and certification requirements.
- Drug Testing: This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program.
- Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Information Technology (IT) Management Series 2210 (Alternative A). Click here for the occupational requirements for this position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes applying a wide range of virtual management system software principles and methods; life cycle management concepts; IT infrastructure, IT security, principles and methods; systems testing and evaluation principles and methods; and troubleshooting procedures to install, configure, test, and implement vendor supplied modifications to existing systems software; develop and evaluate test data to validate program modifications and migrate modifications into production systems. Application of operating principles and methods and the virtual operating environment to monitor systems performance and consult with vendors to determine the effect on server applications resulting from changes to the virtual operating environment.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time--in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of virtual management systems, storage area networks, and virtual desktop infrastructure technology; within a unified communications system construct, new and emerging information technologies, and security methods and principles.
2. Knowledge of the functionality and operability of the current virtual management system sufficient to determine requirements and integrate them with overall design and characteristics compatible with the current unified communications infrastructure to include hardware and server application software and to act as a quality assurance evaluator (QAE).
3. Knowledge of IT principles, practices, system analysis concepts and methods to install, configure, test, and
implement modifications and to interface hardware and server application software within the virtual management
systems environments.
4. Knowledge of performance management and measurement methods and network operating and maintenance
concepts and methods to monitor systems performance data and make virtual operating systems tuning adjustments
to optimize performance and to correct and prevent problems. Ability to analyze and develop modifications to parts of a system that require significant revisions in the logic or techniques used in the original development.
5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to coordinate technical support of applications.
Knowledge of a full range of network systems (LAN/WAN) design principles, methodologies, and approaches
used in developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintaining network services that support
functional requirements.
6. Knowledge of the network architecture, interrelationships, operating modes, configuration, topology, and
protocols typically found at base and enterprise levels. Ability to maintain an up-to-date awareness of technological advances and predict how management can meet future requirements.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
