About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.
Duties
Perform front desk duties, including scheduling patients, receiving patients in the clinic, screening telephone calls, and providing appropriate information.
Assist medical staff by providing travel arrangements, attending staff meetings to prepare meeting minutes, and advising on proper preparation of material, reports, medical records, and various other departmental issues.
Use personal computer with word processing software and printing equipment to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve, and print various materials.
Input selective files, records, data items into the computer using applicable software programs.
Develop, maintain, and transmit monthly clinic and/or surgery schedules of providers within the service.
Coordinate dates/times of various training/lectures with personnel from various organizations.
Maintain appointment calendar for the Chief, scheduling appointments on own initiative based upon personal knowledge of the Chief's workload and commitments.
Set up special files including reference files, standard operating procedures (SOPs), committee work files, professional papers.
Establish and maintain suspense records on all correspondence and action documents and, follow up to ensure a timely reply or action.
Ensure accurate and timely patient submissions are made to the Tumor Board within prescribed timelines and that tumor board preparation is completed weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly as mandated.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: In order to qualify, your resume must demonstrate that you possess at least one year of specialized experience which includes scheduling appointments for patients, assisting with timekeeping and work schedules of staff, and utilizing automated software to type material such as correspondence, memorandums, or medical reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
