About the Position: The incumbent will serve as the civilian military Human Resources Assistant with the responsibility for the independent processing of a variety of military personnel transactions and/or review and verification of transactions and reports for factual accuracy, procedural and substantive sufficiency.

Duties

Prepare military personnel actions for processing. Discuss discrepancies with department directors and staff. Recommend corrective action for discrepancies. Provide immediate status reports on military personnel actions. Print documents using office automation systems and associated equipment. Communicate with military personnel, military dependents, and civilian employees to determine military action requirements. Advise Brigade, Battalion, and Unit personnel leadership on procedures, regulations, and policies. Submit military personnel transactions through specified systems. Offer training and guidance to military personnel, supervisors, and other staff members on HR processes, procedures, and systems. Coordinate retirement processing for military personnel nearing the end of their service. Conduct thorough reviews of incoming military personnel actions to ensure accuracy and completeness. Facilitate the smooth transition of military personnel in and out of units by coordinating the necessary processing procedures.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check may be required.
  • This position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
