About the Position: As a Space Planner (Indo-Pacific) you will provide planning, coordination, integration, and control of Army forces and capabilities in support of space and missile defense operations. This position is located with the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Duties

Serves as the Army force modernization proponent for space, high altitude, and global ballistic missile defense. Serves as the Army operational integrator for global missile defense and conducts mission-related research and development. Serves as a planner and leads diverse operational planning teams (OPTs) of varied sizes incorporating internal and external experts and stakeholders to solve complex problems. Responds to detailed questions, makes recommendations, and provides feedback on Joint Staff, service, and combatant command policies, strategies, and plans. Applies the military decision-making process in support of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command's (USASMDC) mission and the Commander’s priorities and vision. Provides subject matter expertise for planning, coordinating, resourcing, and integrating space and missile defense into USASMDC and Joint Strategies campaign plans and operations. Provide deliberate, contingency, and crisis support planning for Army space and high-altitude in support of various commands and planners. Manages projects, planning groups, and attends all relevant command conferences as necessary; AND educates and advocates for the use of USASMDC capabilities. Acts as Command Lead Planner and oversees all planning requirements for Army space and high-altitude within USASMDC Global Force Management (GFM).

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top-Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • A pre-employment and recurring background investigation that includes contact with all references, employers, co-workers, personal associates, and a review of your driving record, credit history, criminal history, and military service are required.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary, selectee can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower broad band (NH-02) or equivalent grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: OperationsPlanning and EvaluatingProgram ManagementTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a NH-03 broad band or equivalent grade level (GS-12/13 salary range) within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower broad band or equivalent grade level: NH-02 (GS-11). Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Separated Military Members: Resumes will be accepted from members of the Armed Forces who indicate in their applications that they are available for appointment within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. Military members may be appointed while on terminal/transitional leave, before the effective date of their military retirement/separation.
