You will serve as a MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the ENGINEERING AND SCIENTIFIC SERVICE DIVISION (CODE 410), PLANNING DEPARTMENT (CODE 400) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.
Duties
You will provide and manage the identification, evaluation, and resolution of waterfront technical problems, test and documentation deficiencies.
You will manage, research, define test requirements and specifications, evaluations and analyze data and provide technical engineering report to support and accomplish URO program requirements.
You will develop tasks for TRIDENT Planning Yard contractor to provide Waterfront engineering services to support ongoing refit depot and intermediate maintenance repair work.
You will evaluate perceived TRIDENT submarine design deficiencies to determine if the source of deficient conditions may result from inadequate Integrated Logistic Support (ILS).
You will review proposed design modifications to existing TRIDENT (and other) ship systems and equipment with a view toward alleviating potential problems by influencing the hardware design.
You will monitor for and identify design deficiencies from various sources.
You will act as technical liaison between TRIREFFAC, SUBASE, NAVSEA, COMSUBLANT, COMSUBGRU 10, SUBMEPP, and Planning Yard Design.
You will participate in ongoing NAVSEA Research and Development efforts in various engineering fields, providing input and recommendations relevant to life cycle maintenance and repair of TRIDENT submarines and other ship classes.
You will provide assistance to the Production Department in the design and manufacture of special tools and processes required to support TRIDENT refit activities.

- The incumbent may be assigned to any shift. He/shell will be expected to occasionally continue beyond the regular shift and work week as necessary.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current IT-II Level designation certification.
- You will be required to wear or utilize hard hats, protective eye/hearing devices and safety shoes on a routine basis.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
GS-11:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience defining submarine HM&E systems/equipment test requirements, specifications, drawings, sketches, etc.
Experience providing on-site inspections, evaluating and analyzing submarine NDT and equipment performance problems and specifying corrective actions.
Experience developing expertise to utilize in troubleshooting and fault isolation, repair, testing, and recertification of submarine systems and equipment.
Experience reviewing and making recommendations for corrective action on Engineering Service Request (ESR) documents.
Experience providing technical input for resolution of Departure from Specifications requests associated with submarine repair and maintenance actions and submitting Liaison Action Requests (LARs) to cognizant activities for resolution of submarine maintenance and design problems requiring off-site evaluation.
