You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the AUXILIARY SYSTEMS (SHOP 38A), MECHANICAL DIVISION (CODE 320), REPAIR DEPARTMENT (CODE 300) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.
Duties
You will provide subject matter expertise for submarine machinery, systems and equipment including hydraulic, pneumatic and oxygen systems.
You will provide technical and authoritative assistance on urgent mission-degrading production related problems.
You will troubleshoot complex mechanical system/equipment problems.
You will make recommendations to Engineering for diagnostic and operability tests.
You will provide production repair guidance to the repair department for the resolution of repair/overhaul or test/grooming problems beyond their level of in-house production shop expertise.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position must be able to maintain an IT II designation.
- This position will be required to travel for worldwide deployment including Diego Garcia. Must pass physical requirements (DGAR screening) to allow deployment in support of SSGN overseas voyage repairs.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- May be required to travel as the need arises for purposes such as training, attendance at meetings, and participation in work efforts at other shore activities and onboard ships and submarines at sea.
- The incumbent may also be required to perform duties which involve exposure to a variety of industrial working conditions and environments.
- Will be required to satisfactorily pass physical requirements necessary for the satisfactory performance of work in the position.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience providing subject matter expertise for submarine machinery, systems and equipment including control surfaces, trim and drain, and operability systems;
Experience troubleshooting complex mechanical system/equipment problems beyond the capability of the forces afloat or repair activities production shop mechanics to diagnose and correct;
Experience providing technical assistance and providing technical training to internal and external activities;
Experience providing technical guidance for I-level repair efforts, including repair procedure development, review for accuracy, quality, effectiveness, and efficiency;
Experience developing test plans and procedures;
Experience providing technical recommendations for new component maintenance schedules for use on new submarine design and construction.
