The primary purpose of this position is: To plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive year-round youth and teen sports and fitness program. Programs provided are age and skill level appropriate, developmental in nature, highly motivating and promote the maximum sense of growth. Age of target population is 5 to 18 years.

Duties

Plan, develop, organize and supervise a diverse and comprehensive youth sports program which includes special events, intramural and extramural teams and leagues, individual sports and instructional programs. Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates all aspects of a comprehensive, divers and engaging fitness and health program for youth. Provides a safe and healthy environment for youth. Administer the resources of the sports program. Assists in developing marketing strategics to promote and publicize the youth sports and fitness programs, increasing awareness and participation.

  • Incumbent is subject to work an uncommon tour of duty to meet program requirements including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • May be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft when performing temporary duty (TDY)
  • Requires the operation of personal or government vehicles. A valid driver's license is required
  • Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's, First Aid, and CPR Certification
  • Subject to physical examination (every three years) and immunizations IAW AFJI 48-I 10 and local requirements
  • Must complete all mandatory training IAW AFI 34-249 Air Force Youth Programs
  • Required to transport youth (15 PAX) van to sport events
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Recreation Specialist, Series 0188. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes, knowledge of the goals, principles, methods and techniques of youth activities, including health and safety requirements and child abuse identification, reporting and prevention methods; knowledge required to plan and establish program objectives, performance goals, to make adjustments to meet new requirements, emergencies, or changing programs within established resources. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed one full academic year of graduate-level education with a major study in a subject area related to the position to be filled OR I have a bachelor's degree in a subject area related to the position and am claiming Superior Academic Achievement. NOTE: You must submit copies of your official transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in­-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of the principles, concepts, developmental appropriateness and techniques of youth sports and fitness programs, including physical and psychological factors of individual and team sports. 2. Knowledge of youth development theory, methodology and practices relating to physical, intellectual, social and emotional growth. 3. Knowledge of program and facility management, safety, fire, and environmental regulations, practices, and procedures, as well as facility design and equipment selection and purchase. 4. Ability and skill in teaching and communicating effectively with others both orally and in writing to promote and report on the program, train volunteers and to resolve problems and answer questions relating to the program. 5. Skill in preparing budgets, program evaluations, and facility administration; managing financial and physical resources of sports programs; and in effectively organizing and utilizing available resources within the program framework. 6. Skill and knowledge in operating passenger vans capable of carrying 15 passengers. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
