The primary purpose of this position is to manage and direct the Kirtland AFB fitness Assessment program. Operates under the supervision of the installation Fitness and Sports Director or Assistant Director providing interpretation of AF policy while implementing procedures for fitness evaluations to local personnel assigned to Kirtland AFB.
Duties
Ensures fitness assessments and fitness improvement programs are administered in accordance with Air Force guidance.
Plans, develops and coordinates physical fitness testing schedules for all assigned military units to include geographically separated units that report to units of assignment under wing control.
Provides training to all Fitness Assessment Cell (FAC) augmentees in-house and all other FACs; prior to administering any fitness assessments (FAs).
Determines adequacy of facilities and equipment. Procures, maintains and replaces FA equipment as needed.
Distributes guidance and assistance to customers on testing policies and procedures, answers customers' related questions through incumbent's knowledge of testing operations and support programs.

- Position will require a background security investigation to determine suitability for employment and Secret security clearance. Must be able to obtain and retain a secret security clearance.

- The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver?s license is required for the position.
- Shift work and emergency overtime may be required
- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or Shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.

- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
- Position is designated as Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program. Appointee must sign a statement acknowledging the position occupied is a TDP.
- As a mandatory requirement for employment, the incumbent is to refrain from the use of illegal drugs and if requested, submit to urinalysis testing.
- Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
- Certificate in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation is required. Must be trained and certified in CPR and AED.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in federal service which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the position being filled. Specialized experience is experience which may have been gained while planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating community, industrial, outdoor, institutional, or other recreational programs; planning, establishing, or evaluating a recreational curriculum for junior college or higher academic levels; instructing in the principles and techniques of recreational program planning and management and serving in a leadership role in the programs and activities of local, regional, and/or national recreational organizations.

EDUCATION: One full year of graduate education in a major study which includes general recreation or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of physiology and exercise techniques sufficient to conduct a physical fitness program to include monitoring and developing personalized assessments techniques and improvement plans in accordance with American College of Sports Medicine. Nationally recognized certification from an accredited program is highly recommended.
Knowledge of organization standards, policies, terminology, abbreviations and techniques.
Knowledge of CE, COMM, Fire, Safety and higher hierarchy plans requirements, both real world and exercise conditions.
Skill of various office automation software programs, tools and techniques to support office and facility operations. Produce a variety of documents such as, reports, letter, spreadsheets, databases and graphs. Highly proficient in Microsoft office programs of word, excel and power point.
Skill in administering cardiovascular endurance and strength assessments. Ability to assess client fitness results to determine appropriate follow-up care. Ability to train patrons in large groups and/or brief groups from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Skill of computer hardware/software systems and their interfaces. Ability to analyze software/hardware problems and develop economical solutions.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
