The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an information technology specialist for the organizations systems and programs and ensuring proper administration of the classified and unclassified DoD's High Performance Computing (HPC) assets at the organization.

Duties

Installing, configuring, maintaining UNIX or Linux based platforms. Creating, modifying, and deleting user accounts, performing system backups, and maintaining system configuration files. Possessing a fundamental understanding of operating systems and being familiar with either UNIX or Linux commands or utilities at the user level. Maintaining Linux based system software, configuration management tools (Ansible) and firmware revisions, including patches, updates, and OS upgrades. Solving issues with Linux system hardware, software, and third-party software, and provides detailed and thoughtful analysis of problem and solution. Providing solutions and implementing repairs or workarounds, when possible, fully documenting steps taken when required.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Qualification Standards IOR for Information Technology Management Series, 2210 (Alternative A). Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: IOR for Information Technology Management Series, 2210 (Alternative A) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks), or will have one year within 120 days of closing of this announcement specialized experience, at the next lower grade DO-01 (GS-11), or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience is experience that includes IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving as well as experience in the competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is in or related to the work of the position of an IT Specialist (systems administrator). Specialized experience is experience in managing, troubleshooting, testing, integrating information system components, optimizing network systems, and maintenance of hardware and software systems with a demonstration of detailed working knowledge of Information Technology architecture, security devices, technologies as well as a wide range of software systems. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Problem Solving Develops new methods, criteria, policies, or precedents for business management or a professional field. Communication Communicates important concepts to influence decisions or recommend solutions with specialists and management officials in own organization. Business Management Works with customers to define/anticipate problems and develop strategies for effective resolution within a particular program area. Teamwork and Leadership Contributes as lead or key member of the team performing the substantive analytical or professional duties in support of the organizational mission. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
