The primary purpose of this position is to to serve as an electronics technician for a technical support organization within a Squadron whose mission is to provide an organic capability in the design, development, fabrication and integration of specialized electronic systems for development and testing.
Duties
Performs layout, assembly, and construction of specialized research and development systems to measure and acquire data in a variety of environmental field and laboratory conditions.
Performs checkout, evaluation, test, and quality assurance or specialized development systems.
Prepares specifications for procurement of new equipment and components required to support and conduct tests and measurements.
Requirements
- This position is required to drive a motor vehicle at times; a valid, current state driver's license will be required.
- The majority of the work is done in a laboratory environment at the technician's bench. Testing may be performed on local and remote land ranges, aboard aircraft, at other bases, or at a contractor's facility.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include utilizing a background of aircraft electronics experience to fabricate, install, operationally check, and maintain specialized aircraft instrumentation systems to measure and record test parameters in a variety of environmental, field, or laboratory conditions. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-10 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge and skill in designing new circuitry and the ability to perform associated product fabrication techniques such as population of multi-layer high density printed circuit boards, complex wiring of ground and airborne systems, soldering, de-soldering, and cutting, bending and drilling of metal, etc. Soldering and de-soldering skills shall meet IPC-A-61 0 electronic assembly standards.
Thorough knowledge of basic electronic concepts and fundamentals (e.g., OHM's and Kirchoffs Laws, time and frequency domain relationships, Boolean algebra, and basic digital technology) and the ability to convert theoretical ideas of engineers and scientists to functional components and systems.
Knowledge of digital and analog components used in modem technology such as microprocessors, gate arrays, LSI devices and memory devices. Familiarity with data transmission techniques such as Radio Frequency (RF), telemetry, microwave and fiber optic data links.
Ability to read, interpret, correct, modify and generate electrical electronic computer aided design (CAD) schematics.
Knowledge of and skill in the use of various pieces of electronic test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, PLNPLC programmers, telemetry systems, spectrum analyzers, oscillators, amplifiers, and power supplies.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
