This position is located in the Veterans Administration (VA), Veterans Health Administration(VHA), Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), VA Medical Center (MC), Fayetteville, North Carolina, in the Office of Patient Care Service. This position provides administrative and program support services to the Chief Nurses of Mental Health, Geriatrics/Long-Term Care, Ambulatory Care, and Acute

Duties

This is a bargaining unit position. This position is located within the Nutrition and Food Services The primary purpose of the Program Support Assistant , (AO) is to provide provide a wide variety of administrative , clerical , and technical support to Nutrition and Food Service. The incumbent in this position performs work that supports budget analysis and administration and the incumbent also uses office automation programs and software such as word processing, spreadsheet and database management in support of the clerical and administrative work as well as copy machine, fax machine, scanner and email. Major duties and responsibilities will include: Monitors all aspects of the Chief Nurse's Office administrative operating programs and makes recommendations to improve or modify methods. Reviews proposed directives/policies of the Chief Nurse to ensure proper arrangement, format, consistency with existing directives, as well as the proper distribution. Serves as a liaison to the Chief Nurse's office to arrange for, monitor, and secure equipment, services, and products. Receives visitors and telephone calls to the administrative work area. Serves as timekeeper or alternate time keeper , initiating , and maintaining all required records for Section Chief Nurse in accordance with VA regulations. Serves as the ADPAC for the Section Chief Nurse, granting , reviewing and revoking access. . Sponsors and Submits employees for I dentification cards and appropriate access via electronic e-pas requests and functions as a first point-of-contact liaison. Prepares and/or tracks program specific information such as Section Chief Nurse workload, staffing, congressional inquiries, grants, and cooperative agreements. Collects, compiles, and tracks data and information in support of the Section's operations. Coordinates the in-processing and orientation activities for all incoming trainees (students, residents, and fellows). Contacts patients regarding written complaints in the form of PATS, White House inquiries, Congressional inquiries, etc. Assists staff with preparation of training requests, to include preparing travel requests and travel arrangements. Skilled in transcribing taped dictation Monitors patient access performance metrics, by tracking data on spreadsheets to present to the Service Chief and Associate Director Patient Care Services.. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/01/2024. You may qualify based on your experience as described below. Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as uses organization policies, regulations, and procedures to review and process funding applications and coordination of required program reports; reviews and processes organizational submission requests ensuring the data and documents submitted meet compliance requirements; and uses an organizational purchase card to order supplies, equipment, and services. Typing Proficiency: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. Per Office of Personnel Management General Schedule Qualification Policies, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable when documented by satisfactory evidence (e.g., a memorandum from the manager, human resources director, or official documentation such as SF-52, SF-50 documenting an official detail/assignments, or other comparable documentation). The documentation must indicate whether the employee performed the duties full time or, if part-time, the percentage of times the employee performed the additional duties. Education

As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
