Duties

Major Duties of the Position: The Humanities Research Librarian performs liaison functions to support the McDermott Library's outreach programming for the Humanities Division at the United States Air Force Academy. Responsibilities include providing library instruction for and teaching research methodologies to undergraduate cadets; providing research consultations by appointment; collaborating with teaching faculty on course design to include library resources; and assessing instruction, teaching efforts, and library programming to improve the quality of library public services. This librarian supports annual library strategic goals and initiatives (e.g., scholarly communications, assessment, data services, etc.) as directed by library leadership; collaborates with colleagues on selection and deselection of library resources in the humanities; collaborates with other areas in the library (e.g., Special Collections and Technical Services) on library-wide projects; conducts workshops and programming with colleagues for cadets and faculty; initiates and conducts a program of research that contributes to the library profession through publications and presentations at professional conferences; maintains membership in professional societies, including attendance at professional, regional, and national conferences; partners with Academy support agencies (e.g., Academic Success Center and Martinson Honors Program) to develop joint outreach programming and to ensure innovative instruction for cadets; performs other liaison functions as assigned to support McDermott Library and Academy missions; serves on library and Academy committees or working groups, as appropriate.

  • The salary shown is the minimum (Annual) amount to be paid and may be set higher commensurate with individual's qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Masters in Library Science or Library Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited program or foreign equivalent; minimum of 1-3 years' experience in an academic library public services role for AD-21, demonstrated effective information literacy instruction in person and/or online; experience in collection development of print and online resources to support curriculum; experience and facility with working with library online tools (e.g. Springshare) to create course instruction and general subject guides; experience using qualitative and/or quantitative data to assess impact of library instruction and library programming in the assigned division to make improvements as necessary; understanding of the scholarly communications role in academic libraries; prior evidence of professional engagement through publications and professional presentations. ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES: Library Science or Library Information Sciences DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Second master's degree in a Humanities discipline (e.g., English, History, Foreign Languages, Philosophy) taught at the Air Force Academy; experience working in a public services role with students and faculty in a 4-year undergraduate-focused university or college.
