About the Position: Serves as a CMA HQ Public Affairs Specialist supporting the headquarters, RCMD and the Chemical Ammunition Surveillance Office (CASO) / Redstone Chemical Activity (RCA) in reference to the RCMD mission.
Duties
Advises Chemical Materials Activity (CMA) and Recovered Chemical Materiel Directorate (RCMD) personnel and leadership (Director Level) on handling issues and incidents related to the RCMD and the overarching CMA missions.
Coordinates across the Command and higher, with leadership and partners to share RCMD efforts and foster understanding of the organizational structure and mission of CMA/RCMD.
Develops plans for campaigns to disseminate information about RCMD’s programs and activities and advises top managers on the possible public and media reactions to proposed policy statements or plans of action.
Synchronizes internal and external communication efforts, at all levels, incorporating the full spectrum of traditional and news media sources to educate CMA’s/RCMD’s audience.
Briefs and/or visits include GO and SES level both United States and internationally.
Proposes and develops mitigative measures and strategies for release of sensitive information which has potential for unfavorable public reaction.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
- TDY Travel is required 20% of the time.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements .

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in Directing media relations, command information, social media and community relations special projects; 2) Writing plans and guidance to establish guidelines and policies for use within the organization or by subordinate public affairs offices; 3) Presenting oral and or written information to internal and external audiences to gain support from those audiences for existing or proposed programs; 4) Responding to requests for guidance in public affairs matters from members of the command and from the field, as well as respond to requests for information from news media representatives, and the public; 5) Applying principles, methods, and techniques of all forms of mass and interpersonal communications media when developing, executing, and evaluating public affairs plans, policies, and practices. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
