You will serve as a QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST (NUCLEAR) in the Radiological Monitoring Division, Radiological Control Office of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF).

Duties

You will develop, implement, and assess metrics to validate the overall performance of radiological control technicians, radiological controls processes, and the documentation of radiological surveys. You will serve as the Radiological technical consultant and advisor and provide divisional staff guidance and direction in developing specialized policy and procedural guidelines for assigned areas. You will coordinate and administer the surveillance of shipyard personnel engaged in radiological work. You will measure outcomes, investigate underlying causes of poor performance, and determine corrective action on complex quality problems. You will plan and develop metrics to confirm existing programs are in compliance.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You may be required to lift or carry items weighing up to forty (40) pounds.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: developing quality assurance plans (e.g. process audits and surveys) to evaluate quality trends in radiological control processes and recommending corrective actions for management to ensure compliance with radiological control and survey requirements. GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying quality assurance methods (e.g. procedures evaluations, studies and statistical analysis) to evaluate radiological control processes to detect deficiencies and determine corrective actions to ensure compliance with radiological control and survey requirements. Education

In lieu of specialized experience for the GS-11 level only, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree with major study in quality assurance, statistics, mathematics, production management, industrial management, computer science, engineering, engineering technology, physical sciences, textiles, or another field related to the position;
OR
Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree with major study in quality assurance, statistics, mathematics, production management, industrial management, computer science, engineering, engineering technology, physical sciences, textiles, or another field related to the position;
OR

OR
A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
