You will serve as a Supervisory Quality Assurance Specialist (Materials and Processes) in the Welding & NDT Division-Code 138, NDT Branch- Code 138.4 of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will direct complex projects requiring formal and informal liaison with engineers, representatives of other Naval Facilities, Reactor Plant Prime Contractor Representatives, vendors, supervisors, and managers in other Shipyard departments. You will act as overall process owner for Nondestructive Testing (NDT) and perform a continuous performance assessment of NDT process owners in other engineering codes, inspection codes, and production shops. You will act as an authority for Shipyard processes associated with certification of nondestructive test and metallographic inspection personnel. You will be familiar with Shipyard capabilities and facilities for conducting welding and nondestructive testing.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: overseeing quality assurance surveillance and assessments by developing and implementing quality assurance nondestructive test projects or programs in support of the overhaul, conversion, or repair of ships or submarines.
