You will serve as a QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST (NUCLEAR) in the Nuclear Quality Division of the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will identify and report problems and assessments. You will plan, develop or administer quality assurance audit and surveillance reports of Shipyard activities. You will plan systematic approaches designed to provide adequate confidence that products will conform to established requirements throughout the product's life. You will report problems in assigned projects, organizations, and functions to managers/supervisors to assure they have timely knowledge of emergent problems/trends. You will perform analysis of data relative to nuclear engineering, all phases of nuclear reactor plant work (e.g. refueling, testing, manufacturing, design) and developing new quality assurance programs. You will act as the quality assurance expert/representative of the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department in assigned problem resolution and process management matters. You will prepare deficiency reports (quality control and radiological), technical manuals, nuclear power manuals, assessments and periodic reports.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector developing and overseeing quality assurance audits and surveillances of the overhaul, testing, maintenance, and refueling of nuclear reactor plants and recommending corrective action to resolve issues and improve procedural guidelines.
