You will serve as a PARALEGAL SPECIALIST in the STAFF JUDGE ADVOCATE DIVISION of MARFORCOM NORFOLK.

Duties

You will create and maintain a system of records that tracks and records all documents, records, and command training. You will provide research, analysis, and ethics opinions to all U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command personnel and the subordinate commands. You will advise, counsel, and provide guidance on the statuses, regulations, rules, and procedures for post-trial criminal actions. You will receive, research, analyze, investigate and recommend action in several areas regarding law. You will organize and maintain the Law Library You will be responsible for writing and publishing legal assistance articles highlighting relevant changes in the law or legal assistance issues. You will select, summarize, and compile comparitive data on ethics and standards of conduct matters to examine and evaluate project deficiencies in order to provide accuracy and consistency in legal opinions.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You are required to be a certified Virginia notary.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Reviewing and analyzing legal documents; utilizing research methods in order to conduct legal support and action; maintaining a system of records; providing guidance on legal matters; writing and publishing articles. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
  • I have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR
  • I have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree OR

  • I have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
