You will serve as a PARALEGAL SPECIALIST in the Office of Counsel of MILITARY SEALIFT COMMAND.

Duties

You will serve as a paralegal specialist to the Counsel, Deputy Counsel, the Senior Associate Counsels and other MSC Office of Counsel staff attorneys. You will perform legal research and drafts legal pleadings and memoranda for the signature of an attorney in any of the substantive areas of law handled by MSC Office of Counsel. You will prepare and maintain litigation case files, including filing all pleadings, correspondence, orders, motions and discovery in chronological orders. You will assist MSC Office of Counsel attorneys with preparing and tracking litigation holds, legal briefs and pleadings, settlement agreements, command directives, executive summary memoranda, and preparation of legal memoranda and correspondence. You will provide clerical and administrative support to Counsel Staff attorneys.

Requirements

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is eligible for part time, substantial or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
  • Relocation expenses (i.e. PCS) may be authorized in accordance with applicable travel regulations.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Performing legal research and interpreting the applicable statutes, decisions, opinions, directives, regulations, or other sources for legal authority in support of office counsel. Composing standard legal documents, pleadings, legal briefs, settlement agreements, and memoranda routinely needed for legal actions. Using electronic legal research tools and databases and online resources to assist office counsel staff attorneys. Preparing and maintaining litigation case files, tracking litigation holds, analyze investigation files, case materials, legal documents and pleadings to assist attorneys in making recommendations and establishing strategies. Tracking current judicial, administrative dockets and deadlines to conclusion. Education

Substitution of Education:

Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree

OR

Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree

OR

Possession of an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled
