The selectee of this position serves as a Human Resources Assistant (Recruitment and Placement) responsible for supporting the United States Marshals Service (USMS), Human Resources Division (HRD) Recruitment and Placement programs. This position is announced at the developmental entry level GS-05 with potential for career ladder advancement to GS-06, up to the full performance level of GS-07. This position is located in the Human Resources Division / Arlington, Virginia.

Duties

As a Human Resources Assistant (Recruitment and Placement) at the GS-0203-5 grade level, some of your typical work assignments may include, but are not limited to, the following: Processing personnel actions. Using information systems and software application packages to complete tasks. Assisting senior Human Resources Specialists with recruitment activities, special projects, and reporting. Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable determination of suitability for a Public Trust position.
  • May be required to successfully complete a trial/probationary period.

Qualifications

To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the education and/or experience required for this position and that you meet the selective factor required for successful performance in this position. To qualify at the GS-05 grade level, you must meet one of the following: Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. You must have at least one year (12 months) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service performing the following duties: Providing human resources support and assistance; Maintaining a filing system; and Providing receptionist services for an office (including responding to phone calls and emails). OR Education: You must have successfully completed 4 years (120 semester hours) of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite and that was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. OR Combination: You must have an equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience as described above that meets the total experience requirement. Noting, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. AND In addition to the Education and/or Experience required for this position you must meet the following: Selective Factor: A technical competency without which you could not perform the duties of the position in a satisfactory manner will be used as a screen out item. You must have knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of various software packages in order to create, update, edit, and revise a wide range of documents, automated records, databases, etc. Your resume must demonstrate that your experience and/or education includes using computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work and/or assignments. Education

  • Your major and degree.

  • Any honors you received.
  • The dates you attended the school.
  • A list of the courses you took, to include the total number of credits completed.
Academic degrees must be granted from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. To determine if a school or program is accredited, refer to the Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
