Duties
Assist in the development of classes and material for medical training. Develops course material and examinations for the medical subjects, nursing advanced trauma, surgery, and anesthesia subjects.
Serves as a Special Forces Medical Branch instructor. Performs doctrinal instruction in Special Forces Medicine for US personnel.
Manage the institutional programs of human anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, veterinarian subjects, laboratory subjects, general medical subjects, nursing, surgery and anesthesia.
Presents lectures, demonstrations, and practical exercises to students enrolled in the Special Operations Combat Medic (SOCM) Course, Special Operations Combat Medic Skills Sustainment Course (SOCMSSC), Special Forces Medical Sergeants (SFMS) Course.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Must be available to travel TDY up to 15% of the time.
- Must be former instructor or graduate of the Special Forces Medical Sergeants Course or the Special Operations Combat Medic Course or equivalent course of instruction that equipped the employee with the required medical training.
- Position requires extended periods of walking and standing, repetitive bending over, and working from the kneeling or prone positions while instructing courses.
- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- The work environment will consist of but not limited to the classroom, laboratory, and the outdoors. Employee will be required to work outdoors regardless of the weather conditions.
- This position may require a 1-year probationary period.
- The employee may be required to work overtime.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes performing doctrinal instruction; assisting in the development of classes and material for medical training; planning, developing monitoring and presenting lectures, demonstrations, and practical exercises in combat trauma management, surgery, and anesthesia; instructing classes in unconventional warfare and foreign internal defense; using judgment and discretion on subject matter content decisions following oral and written guidance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
