About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the National Ground Intelligence Center, Science and Technology Directorate, Signatures Division, Charlottesville, VA 22911.

Duties

Serve as a remote sensing and imagery scientist on a scientific and technical intelligence team supporting 24/7 ground forces intelligence requirements. Process, analyze, and disseminate spectrally-derived intelligence from remote sensors. Collect, process, and interpret spectral signatures from lab and field instruments; Incorporate lab and field signature data into established spectral processing, exploitation, and dissemination methodologies. Develop methods, techniques, and processes for spectral remote sensing data to address and answer intelligence requirements. Code, program, and convert scientific and technical methods into automated processes for Army GEOINT Analysis and Production elements. Integrate remote sensing applications with Army GEOINT Analysis and Production workflows, processes, and architecture.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Must be willing to undergo and successfully complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination with No Deception Indicated (NDI) on a pre-appointment and periodic basis.

One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience in conducting in-depth processing, exploitation and analysis of spectral remote sensing data. Experience using signature matching algorithms and techniques. Experience in developing methods, techniques and processes for spectral remote sensing intelligence requirements. The Engineering and Physical Sciences families have specific educational requirements in addition to meeting the specialized experience requirements above, you must also meet the specific educational requirements for the series that you apply for in order to be considered for this position.
