The primary purpose of this postion is: To serve as a senior information Technology (IT) Customer Support Specilaist/ Systems Administrator in planning, designing, implementing IT systems to meet business requirements.

Duties

Performs services as a senior systems administrator. Provides technical guidance and instructions to users and other IT specialist. Serve as a senior technical advisory to users. Maintains liaison with manufactures, professional organizations and counterparts at other installations and services regaring availible produacts and state of the art technology and advancments.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.

  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program
  • Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties.
  • Continued.. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends and or holidays.
  • Employee must meet DOD 8570 certification requirements related to client system support and systems administration, IAR level II.
  • This is a mission essential position performing a mission critical function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
  • The employee may be required to travel on military or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty.
  • Eligible for a Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) which is subject to change without notice. Hawaii 2024: A Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) of 8.90% will be added to the stated salary.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Information Technology (IT) Management Series, GS-2210 (Alternate A). https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/2200/information-technology-it-management-series-2210-alternative-a/ SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes; Applying systems integration methods, performance tuning methods, test and evaluation methods and procedures, IT security principles and methods, and project management principles and methods sufficient to plan and coordinate the installation of new products. Implement configuration management methods and techniques for integrating information system components sufficient to install and maintain software and hardware. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to plan, coordinate, and administer computer systems, and optimize system performance. Knowledge of the latest advancements in technology to initiate corrective or preventative action to ensure optimum performance of the system. Knowledge of performance tuning tools, database management and project management methods sufficient to optimize system performance problems and preform a wide range of system administrator functions. Knowledge of operating system associated devises and interoperability of system sufficient to install and update and ensure the availability of integrity, efficiency, and reliability of servers. Ability to apply methods and practices for troubleshooting recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to solve complex problem, support minimizes interruptions in service to customers, and maintain liaison with industry and other activities to provide awareness of state to f the art technology. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
